Voice Over Intensive with top VO actor Stuart Dillon

This 2 hour evening is devoted to presenting an intensive thumb-nail sketch of the Voice Over Business with VO actor Stuart Dillion.

Area to be covered during the evening will include

  • mic participation
  • copy analysis
  • the 'business' of the VO Business
  • gaining Agent Representation
  • the proper development of 'Demo CDs' that showcase a student's particular VO strengths and much more.

The evening will consist of no less than 6 and no more than 10 participants.  

Stuart looks forward to meeting all of you and hopes that the evening will peak your interest in the world of  professional voice-over work.

If students wish to continue with a regular series of VO Classes with Stuart Dillon, a comprehensive 5 weeks will be made available, 2 nights a week, 7-9 PM, to be held in February, 2017.

His own career as a voice over talent, copywriter, creative director and producer has given him a diverse understanding of the business from both sides of the microphone.

New York are referred by top talent agents, casting directors, and other industry insiders, and must pass an interview process before being accepted into the limited enrollment sessions. They range from professional voice-over talents brushing up on their technique; on camera commercial talent wanting to cross over to voice over; to film, theater, TV actors, and beginners hoping to enter the field.

Mr. Dillon has been the voice for Domino's Pizza, "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!", Ford, Ikea, Lipton Tea, Labatt's Blue, Burger King, as well as promos for A&E, Nickelodeon, Court TV, and HBO . . .

His background in advertising includes having been creative director at both McCann-Erickson and Cunningham and Walsh in New York City. As an award winning producer and copy writer he has handled accounts for Exxon, American Motors, Ciba-Geigy, United Aircraft, Buick, Southern Railway, GMC and the Bahamas Tourist Board to name a few. Mr. Dillon also produces and directs radio and television commercials through his company AdvantageRadioTelevsion.

currently casting upcoming films for Jan 2017 The Living End, Shooters Nail, That's the Girl, and Untitled Teen Horror. She is a international casting director with 15 years experience casting and producing Award Winning Independent Feature Films, Shorts Films and Web Series’ .  Her ensemble casts consists of critically acclaimed actors from film, television and Broadwayas well as new upcoming talent. In 2013 she proudly discovered teen newcomer Sara Sebastainaand cast her alongside Eric Roberts, and Sean Young in the film “Leaves of the Tree”  Some of her other Casting & Producing credits include: Excuse Me for Living, Tammy,  79’ Parts, The Networker, Anonymous Content, West End, A Cry from Within, Milo & Annieand This Shinning Night. Most recently Donna put together an all star cast for the comedyBefore I Do, and the gritty drama Saturday in the Park, she will start castings the featurefilms The Next Page and Oiled Up in June.

 In addition to casting and producing, Donna tours the Globe teaching film and acting classes.

Sabrina Hyman is currently casting a SAG VR short film for the NY Times called LINCOLN IN THE BARDO, which is a companion piece to the upcoming novel by George Saunders. is a NY-based film and television casting director. She was recently CD (with Avy Kaufman) on the HBO limited series The Night Of, directed by Steven Zaillian and starring John Turturro. Prior to casting independently, she worked in some of the biggest offices in LA and NY, including Denise Chamian, Bialy/Thomas, and Avy Kaufman. Past projects include the features Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg, and The Conspirator, directed by Robert Redford, as well as episodics such as Royal Pains (USA), Younger (TV Land) and The Unit (CBS). She was CD on independent features that include Seth Fisher’s Blumenthal, starring Brian Cox, and Brad Raider’s Kensho at the Bedfellow, featuring Grainger Hines and Kathryn Erbe.

Kimberly Graham has been the Associate Casting Director for Judy Henderson Casting since 2003. She casts for film, television, commercials and theater. Her office was the pioneer for voice over casting for video games, primarily the Grand Theft Auto series. Her office casts for Off-Broadway theaters such as The New Group,The Play Company, The Director’s Company and Pig Iron Theater Company in Philadelphia.
Kimberly has helped to cast such films as AVATAR, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, and Rick Linklater’s BEFORE MIDNIGHT among others. Her work on HOMELAND for SHOWTIME has garnered numerous awards, including ARTIOS and EMMY AWARDS for outstanding casting in a drama. Kimberly frequently teaches workshops in NYC, Boston, DC, Savannah, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Miami, Paris, Berlin and London among others.
She will start casting season 6 of Homeland in July.

Ari Taub Bio:

Ari has been working in the film industry for over 25 years.  His films have been screened around the world, covering many themes and genres.  They have also been showcased on HBO, Arts and Entertainment, Showtime and the Disney Channel. 

In 2004, Ari’s breakout directorial effort was his feature film titled; The Fallen.  A World War II drama taken from the perspective of Italian, German and American soldiers won the Best Film and Best Director award, as well as the Audience Award at the Milan International Film Festival.  The film also won the the Best New Director Award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival. 

His current feature is titled, 79 Parts, a high concept dramady set in 1979 about car robberies, youthful high jinks and forbidden love.  It will be released via the festival circuit in 2016. Currently accepted in the Soho International Film festival in NYC.   Ari is president of Hit and Run Productions.

The workshop begin with Q/A with Donna and guest. The focus of the evening is initial camera audition and in the Callback wirth the director.

 

Then in the first half, each actor will get to work on camera with Donna and receive adjustments. Then the second half -. After everyone has gone they will leave the room and come back in one at a time for callback. The director will set up a call back situation and share with the actors what his requirements are for the callback for that audition.

Donna McKenna-  Bio

Donna is aninternational casting director and producer who known for discovering unique new talent as well as recognizing the seasoned professional whom have the desire to take risks and play against their type.

Some of her films have been invited to screen at renowned film festivals including the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival, some of her films have been nominated and or won festival awards especially in the acting category. Donna is one of the busiest CD in NYC. Some of her films she cast in just the past 6 months!

NATHAN CROOKER- DRECTOR/ FILMMAKER

Nathan Crooker is an accomplished filmmaker and writer.

Nathan started his directing career behind the camera as a director of photography on various documentaries including the critically acclaimed "Holy Wars" directed by Smuggler Films’ Stephen Marshall. Filmed in the heart of the Middle East and Southeast Asia, “Holy Wars” allowed Nathan to marry his passion for film, impactful storytelling and adventure-driven travel. Before the trend of travel and food shows, Nathan was documenting untold experiences in locations such as Palestine, Sierra Leone, Iran, and the cocaine jungles of Peru.

Nathan has since developed an extensive career as a film, commercial and music video director with a vision that spans all styles and genres, reflecting his wide-ranging interests. His prolific collection of work includes high profile clients such as New Balance, Nabisco, Dell, Canon, Bergdorf Goodman, and RCA Records.

Nathan's film credits include "Stuffer" which won numerous awards including best short film at Houston World Fest and The Silver Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival. Robert Butler from the Kansas City Star said, "Great acting and delivers kick-in-the-gut dramatic power." He also wrote and directed "Peace Of Mind" which won Matt Newton a best actor award at the Philadelphia Film Festival and the El Capitan Award at the Yosemite Film Festival for best short. 

 

In 2015 Nathan’s horror short film, Playback, which he directed, wrote and produced, went viral with over 500,000 views in just two days. Shot in one-take, Playback won for Best Thriller at Fargo Fantastic Fest 2015 and has been an official selection and has screened at festivals across the country and globe, including the 2015 Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, Freak Show Horror Film Festival, New York Horror Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival, The UK’s One Shot Movie Festival, and Mexico's Morbido Film Festival.  

Recently he produced the film Until Someone Gets Hurt starring Micheal Welch from the blockbuster series Twilight. The film is due to to release next year.  
 

Currently Nathan is in development as a writer and director on several features and web series projects. He lives in New York City's Greenwich Village.

The evening will begin with Brette Q/A. She will take you through her list of professional requirements and what she specifically looks for at an audition.

 

  • Last time she was here she called 3 actors to audition and booked one!

 

Next, each actor will get to work on camera in a group and receive feedback from Brette .

Brette will read each actor with pre-selected sides on camera with detailed evaluation. Sides will be assigned a few days prior to event.

About Brette

 

 

 

 Brette is one of the busiest CD in NYC. And one of the nicest!!! And extremely actor friendly.

She is currently casting the second season of LMN’s “I Love You…But I Lied”. She recently cast the half-hour comedic series “Donny!" on USA. Brette has cast over 45 independent films including the recent CRAZY FAMOUS and HEDGEHOG with Ann Dowd and Madeline Brewer, 150 commercials, 100 plays, several television and new media projects and was the resident casting director at Washington, DC’s Folger Elizabethan Theatre for ten seasons. Films Brette has cast have won awards and been official selections at most of the major film festivals, including Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes. Brette is the former Co-Producing Director of Washington Jewish Theatre, Production Manager at Washington Shakespeare Co., and Associate Producer of the Washington Theatre Festival. Brette teaches audition technique at various NYC studios and several universities and has done some serious damage at the craft services table in brief stints as on-set coach.

With more and more networks and independent projects requesting self-tape auditions, actors are at a disadvantage especially if they do not understand protocol  of what directors and Casting Dir look for.

In this 2 week workshop it will take out all the guessing and guide the actor to create the most effective self tape auditions. They will learn proper lighting and sound and shot.

David Spaltro

David Spaltro is a New York based, award winning writer, director, producer and editor. In 2007 he completed his first feature film,  "...Around"  love-letter to NYC, and part auto-biography of his time at film school, a critical and festival success, released through Cinetic Media on Amazon, VOD, and Netflix in 2009, and it's TV debut on PBS Christmas Day 2010. Spaltro's second feature, 2012's "Things I Don't Understand" , also went on to critical acclaim, attending over 45 film festivals and winning 18 Best Feature awards, as well as a host of acting, writing, and directing honors. Spaltro directed the short film "The Cat's Cradle", written by Tawny Sorensen, and wrote, directed, and edited his third feature, "...In the Dark", a horror project for Seven Oaks Films and Intimation Productions in 2014. Spaltro currently is involved in an adaptation of Gothic horror novelist Steven Peck's "A Short Stay in Hell",  as well as writing-directing-producing "Wake Up in New York", the final chapter of his NYC Valentine Trilogy through his companyWandering/Cut Films.

In this unique workshop, Indie award winning Film Director David Spaltro will take you through the ins and outs of auditioning for  indie film. He will then look at scenes in a group one at a time.

Brian O'Neil

Brian is the author of New York's #1 selling performing arts book, Acting As a Business: Strategies for Success, currently in its Fifth Edition and 30th printing and published by Random House. Acting As a Business is now considered such a vital resource that it recently won a spot on Entertainment Weekly Magazine's exclusive list of Top Ten "Show-Biz Industry Bibles." Brian is also the author of the book Actors Take Action: A Career Guide for the Competitive Actor.

Brian created the advice column "Actor's Cues and A's" for Back Stage, and his books are required or recommended reading in many conservatory training programs, including Yale and Juilliard.

Cold Reading Series : On Camera audition technique

 

Brette Goldstein is an independent Casting Director who is always casting multiple projects for FILM and Stage.  Brette has cast over 40 independent films, 100 commercials, 100 plays, several television (including two current shows, one for LMN and one for USA) and new media projects (currently “No Hookups Please”, EP Nev Schulman). Brette was the resident casting director at Washington, DC’s Folger Elizabethan Theatre for ten seasons. Films Brette has cast have won awards and been official selections at most of the major film festivals, including Sundance, Tribeca and Cannes. She is currently working on  short and two features. Brette is the former Co-Producing Director of Washington Jewish Theatre, Production Manager at Washington Shakespeare Co. and Associate Producer of the Washington Theatre Festival.

Brette teaches audition technique at various NYC studios and several universities and has done some serious damage at the craft services table in brief stints as on-set coach.

 

The Format:

Students will work ON-CAMERA with Brette with prepare assigned scenes.  Then  they will be given cold scenes from her current and past projects. Each student will receive feedback and coaching to help bring their performances to the next level.  She  will share   what students can do to pop on camera.
